I worked a couple of blocks away from the World Trade Center in TriBeCa. I was on the PATH train under the Hudson river on my way to the WTC station that morning, as usual, when the conductor announced that the World Trade Center Station was closed - though we had no idea why. After being rerouted to 33rd street, I caught subways downtown and made it as far as Canal street. As I walked toward the office it quickly became obvious that my meeting was going to be cancelled, so I stopped and took some pictures:
View from the corner of Church and Leonard, approximately 10 blocks away... approximately 5 minutes before the first tower collapse A closer look at the tower that's about to go down Close-up of tower 2 seconds before the other drops View from the street as the tower crumbles Same photo, but a cropped portion at full resolution The debris cloud approaching... time to get out of the way A brief QuickTime movie (2 MB) of the destruction and the view from the street following the first collapse The view from our apartment windows - watching Manhattan burn (about 7:30 PM)
A panoramic view from our apartment in NJ at about 7:15 PM--see photos of my former view below for contrast
